Insurance-backed
  • Route’s terms say its protection is not intended to insure the shopper directly, and that the shopper is not an insured under the Route policy.
  • Route states that it holds Department of Insurance authorization in all 50 states.
  • Its compliance page describes a Marine Open Cargo Policy for Route App, Inc., Jan 1, 2026 to Jan 1, 2027, secured through Artex Risk Solutions and Seg Insurance Ltd.

Litigation involving shipping protection fees

Several lawsuits have challenged how shipping protection fees are presented at checkout, such as pre-selected boxes and disclosure. Every claim below is an allegation unless a court has ruled. None is a finding that any provider broke the law. Status as of October 8, 2026.

    N.D.N.Y. Putative class action under New York consumer law over a pre-selected shipping protection toggle at checkout. Route has not been found liable. Route states that it holds Department of Insurance authorization in all 50 states and publishes its licensed producer and cargo policy (see the Route details above).
