InsureShip / White Label Program / Switching Guide
For shipping protection apps and platforms
Move your shipping protection program onto licensed insurance
Keep your brand, your widget and your merchants. Put a licensed agency and a named insurer behind the offer. Here’s what stays the same, what changes, and how the switch works.

Quick answer: Through InsureShip’s White Label Program, a shipping protection app can keep its brand, widget and merchant relationships while the coverage becomes shipping insurance from a licensed agency, underwritten by Navigators, a Hartford company. You set a go-live date with InsureShip once the agreement, insurer approval and integration are in place. Eligible orders protected from that date are covered subject to the policy terms, and InsureShip handles their claims. Orders protected before it remain your responsibility under your current program’s terms. Your checkout and merchant wording changes to approved insurance language.
Updated October 2026
Why move to licensed insurance
Why consider licensed insurance
Some checkout protection programs say in their own terms that they are not insurance. Whether a product is insurance is decided by state law and regulators, based on what it does, so your own counsel is the right person to advise on your program.
Regulators have been telling shoppers to check that whoever sells shipping coverage is licensed, and Shopify now requires explicit buyer consent for optional paid add-ons. Moving onto licensed insurance gives your merchants and their shoppers a named insurer, written policy terms and a licensed agency handling claims.
- A licensed agency for every policy (CA DOI #0G55434, licensed nationwide)
- Underwritten by Navigators, a Hartford company
- Claims handled by InsureShip under written policy terms
- Coverage and claim questions handled by the licensed agency

The short version
What stays the same, and what changes
Most of what your merchants and their shoppers see stays put. What changes is what stands behind the offer.
Stays the same
- Your brandThe offer carries your name, with “Powered by InsureShip.”
- Your widget and placementYour design and position can stay, with updated wording and a disclosure.
- Your merchant relationshipsMerchants keep working with you and your app.
- Your platform and integration pathConnect through an existing integration built with our fulfillment partner RapidFulfillment, or InsureShip’s custom API.
Changes
- What stands behind the offerShipping insurance from a licensed agency, underwritten by Navigators, a Hartford company.
- Who handles claimsShoppers file with InsureShip, which alone investigates and decides every claim under the policy terms.
- PricingFor Tier 2 Platform Partners, InsureShip sets the price from the insurer’s approved rates.
- Payment collectionInsureShip charges shoppers on its own merchant account, or you collect as InsureShip’s limited collection agent.
- WordingCheckout, emails, help pages and app listings use approved insurance wording and a short disclosure.
Your widget
Keep your widget. Update what it says.
You don’t need to rebuild your checkout experience. These are the changes most widgets need.

New label
The offer becomes “YourBrand Shipping Insurance, powered by InsureShip,” with an approved one-line description of the coverage.
Disclosure
A short disclosure naming InsureShip as the licensed agency and Navigators as the insurer appears with the offer, the confirmation, the coverage page and the claims page.
Acceptance statement
“By adding shipping insurance, you agree to the InsureShip Terms” sits next to the checkbox, linked to the terms.
Clear choice and price
InsureShip recommends an unchecked, opt-in box with the price shown before purchase. If you choose pre-selection where the law, the platform and the insurer allow it, that choice and its compliance are your responsibility.
Claims link
Your claim button or link sends shoppers to InsureShip, through a claims portal that can carry your brand alongside “Powered by InsureShip.”
Order data
Covered orders are reported to InsureShip and reconciled monthly, and you share order and tracking data as set out in the program agreement.
The exact wording comes from InsureShip with your program agreement. Partners can see it in the partner resources.
The question everyone asks
What happens to orders you’ve already protected?
The insurance program covers eligible orders protected on or after your go-live date. It doesn’t reach back to orders protected under your current program.
Orders protected before go-live remain your responsibility under your current program’s terms. For a while, two sets of orders run side by side, sorted by order date. Talk to your counsel about winding down the earlier program and how long to keep its records.
We help you plan that period before you set a date, so your support team and your merchants know which path each order takes.

How to run the changeover
- Set one go-live dateEligible orders protected from that date, in the states set in your agreement, are covered subject to the policy terms.
- Route claims by order dateBefore go-live: your existing process. From go-live: InsureShip.
- Keep the earlier terms availableShoppers with orders from before go-live still need to find the terms that applied to them.
- Brief your support teamGive them a simple rule and the two claim paths before go-live.
- Tell your merchantsExplain the date, the new name and how claims work for older orders. See the sample notice below.
Wording changes
Before and after
Once the offer is insurance, it needs to be described as insurance. These are the common changes.

| Where | Typical protection wording | After the switch |
|---|---|---|
| Offer name | “Shipping Protection” or “Package Protection” | “YourBrand Shipping Insurance, powered by InsureShip” |
| What it does | Replacement or refund promises | Approved coverage description, “subject to the policy terms” |
| “Not insurance” lines | Terms or FAQs saying the product is not insurance | Removed from the offer, listings and help pages for orders from go-live, and replaced by the disclosure. Keep your earlier terms available for orders protected before go-live. |
| Claims | “File a claim with us” | “File a claim with InsureShip,” linked to the claims page |
| Default setting | Box checked by default | Unchecked, opt-in box recommended, with the price shown first |
| App listing and help pages | Protection language and claim promises | Approved descriptions of the insurance, with the disclosure |
| Merchant and shopper emails | Protection confirmations and claim instructions | Insurance confirmation line and the InsureShip claims link |
Tier 2 Platform Partners display the offer and provide the technology; they don’t sell, solicit, negotiate or give coverage advice. Licensed agencies and brokers can join as Tier 1 Licensed Producers. Compare the tiers.

Questions
Switching FAQ
Do we need an insurance license to switch?
Not to join as a Tier 2 Platform Partner, as long as you stay within that role: you display the offer and provide the technology, and you don’t sell, solicit, negotiate or give coverage advice. InsureShip remains the licensed agency for every policy. Licensed agencies and brokers can join as Tier 1 Licensed Producers. Your counsel can advise on your situation.
Can we keep our brand and widget?
Yes. The offer carries your brand with “Powered by InsureShip,” and your widget’s design and placement can stay. The wording changes to approved insurance language with a short disclosure.
Does InsureShip take over claims on orders we already protected?
No. The insurance program covers eligible orders protected on or after your go-live date. Orders protected before then remain your responsibility under your current program’s terms. We help you plan how to run the two side by side.
Who handles claims after the switch?
For orders protected on or after go-live, shoppers file claims with InsureShip, which handles every claim under the policy terms. Your team routes coverage and claim questions to InsureShip and shares order and tracking data as set out in the program agreement.
Can the box stay checked by default?
InsureShip recommends a clearly disclosed, unchecked opt-in box with the price shown before purchase. Some platforms and states restrict pre-selected add-ons. Shopify, for example, requires published apps to get explicit buyer consent before adding optional paid items. If you choose pre-selection where it’s allowed, that choice and its compliance are your responsibility.
Who sets the price shoppers pay?
For Tier 2 Platform Partners, InsureShip sets pricing from the insurer’s approved rates. Pricing, payment collection and partner compensation are set out in the program agreement.
Is the coverage the same as InsureShip’s direct program?
Yes. White label partners make available the same coverage InsureShip offers directly, underwritten by Navigators, a Hartford company. Coverage is subject to the policy terms.
Is the program available in every state?
Participation is subject to a signed program agreement, insurer approval and state law, so availability can vary by state. We confirm the states you’ll offer in your agreement.
