Is Seel Worry-Free Purchase Insurance? What Its Terms Say (2026)

What Seel's website, FAQ and shopper terms say about who insures your order, who pays, and what has been filed in court.

Back to the resource center
Quick answer: Seel describes its protection as insurance. Its website says insurance benefits are provided by Seel Insurance Inc. or Arch Specialty Insurance Company, "depending on jurisdiction and product availability," and its shopper terms call "Seel, Inc., the Insurer" the "sole payor" of payouts. Which entity insures your order can depend on your state and the product, so check the policy documents for your purchase (as of October 2026).

Key takeaways

  • Seel's footer names two insurers, Seel Insurance Inc. and Arch Specialty Insurance Company, and an administrator, Seel Insurance Services, Inc.
  • Seel's FAQ says its products "are backed by properly licensed insurance partners."
  • Seel's shopper terms for shipping protection (dated September 1, 2023) name "Seel, Inc., the Insurer" as the sole payor, set per-package limits, and include arbitration and a class action waiver.
  • One suit against Seel (Mickey) was dismissed by the plaintiff with no ruling on the merits. Another (Jalad) is open, and its allegations are not public to us.

“Is Seel licensed to offer its products? Yes. Seel's products are backed by properly licensed insurance partners, and Seel operates in full compliance with applicable insurance laws and regulations.”— Seel FAQ, seel.com/faq/seel-overview
“For the avoidance of doubt, Seel, Inc., the Insurer, is the sole payor of any and all payouts associated with this product and the Insured is to contact the Insurer directly per the applicable Policy.”— Seel Shipping Protection Terms of Service ("Lasted Updated: September 1, 2023"), seel.com/terms
The shopper terms cover Seel's "Shipping Protection, which may be alternatively branded as Green Shipping Protection, Shipping Protection, or other similar names." We did not find separate shopper terms for Worry-Free Purchase. If you bought Worry-Free Purchase, ask Seel which terms and policy apply to your order.

Two documents, different entity names

The footer names Seel Insurance Inc. or Arch Specialty Insurance Company as the insurer. The 2023 shopper terms call Seel, Inc. "the Insurer." The footer is current; the terms are dated 2023. Before you rely on a claim, ask a simple question: which company issued the policy that covers my order, in my state?

Is Seel's protection regulated as insurance?

Whether a product is insurance is decided by state law and state regulators, based on what it does, not its name. Seel presents its products as insurance and names insurers, which is the structure regulators tell consumers to look for:

“Legitimate shipping coverage providers will be licensed as insurance companies or insurance agents.”— Utah Insurance Department consumer alert, March 20, 2024, insurance.utah.gov

Licensing has two parts. The company that issues the policy needs authority to insure in your state, and the business that sells it generally needs a producer license. California, for example, requires insurers to be "admitted" (Cal. Ins. Code § 700) and sellers to hold a license (§ 1631). If a policy is placed on a surplus lines (non-admitted) basis, the NAIC notes that state guaranty fund protection "is not available to the surplus lines market."

So for Seel, the useful questions are: which of the named insurers covers my state, is it admitted there, and what license does Seel Insurance Services, Inc. hold? You can check through your state insurance department and the 10 questions to ask any provider. This is general information, not legal advice.
