Key takeaways
- InsureShip is integrated with NetSuite SuiteCommerce (integration built with our fulfillment partner RapidFulfillment). Contact us to turn it on for your store.
- SuiteCommerce and SuiteCommerce Advanced have no native shipping insurance option of their own.
- Background: the Cart component offers
addLine(),removeLine()andupdateLine()for the insurance line. - Background: the Checkout component can add a module to a checkout step for the opt-in box.
- Tying the charge to a non-inventory item keeps it visible in NetSuite records.
Does NetSuite SuiteCommerce include shipping insurance?
No. SuiteCommerce is Oracle NetSuite’s ERP-native web store, offered as SuiteCommerce, SuiteCommerce Advanced and SuiteCommerce InStore. It suits mid-market and enterprise merchants already running NetSuite. We found no native insurance option for shoppers.
Because the store runs on your ERP, the main design question is how the insurance charge shows up in NetSuite records, not just at checkout.

How do you add shipping insurance to NetSuite SuiteCommerce?
- Contact InsureShip. Tell us about your NetSuite SuiteCommerce store.
- We enable the integration for your store. The NetSuite SuiteCommerce integration was built with our fulfillment partner RapidFulfillment, so there is no API build on your side.
- Choose an opt-in checkout presentation. Pick how the offer appears in your NetSuite SuiteCommerce checkout. InsureShip recommends, and configures by default, an opt-in (unchecked) offer.
- Customers file claims at /pages/file-claim. InsureShip handles every claim.
Background: how an insurance line travels through NetSuite
For reference, a common NetSuite pattern is a non-inventory item for the insurance charge, so it carries from the web order to the sales order and invoice. The opt-in box sits on the shipping or review step of checkout, and the line is added only when the shopper ticks it.
Background: which SuiteCommerce extensibility components handle a cart line?
| Component | Methods and events | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Cart (SC and SCA) |
addLine(), addLines(), removeLine(), updateLine(), getSummary(), submit(); beforeSubmit/afterSubmit
|
Add or remove the insurance item on the LiveOrder and check it before submit |
| Checkout |
addModuleToStep(), getCurrentStep(), getCheckoutFlow()
|
Place the opt-in box on the right step |
| Cart (InStore) |
addLine(), voidLine(), returnLine()
|
Only if you also sell insured shipments at the counter |
The Cart component works on the LiveOrder, so the insurance line becomes part of the web order. From there, it moves with the order to the sales order and invoice in NetSuite. We confirm which fulfillment records matter for your store when we turn the integration on.
How do claims work with InsureShip?
Once orders ship from NetSuite SuiteCommerce, claims are InsureShip’s job, not your developers’. Your finance team keeps the charge in NetSuite; the claim itself stays with us.
- File online at our claim page. InsureShip handles the claim from there.
- Up to $5,000 per shipment.
- Loss, damage and theft, including porch piracy.
- Licensed. InsureShip is licensed by the California Department of Insurance, license #0G55434, and licensed in all 50 states. Established in 2012, it is backed by Navigators (The Hartford), rated A+ by AM Best.
What are the checkout best practices for NetSuite SuiteCommerce?
Good defaults protect shoppers and your store.
- Unchecked by default. InsureShip recommends, and configures by default, an opt-in (unchecked) offer. The shopper opts in. Several class-action complaints allege that pre-selected shipping protection toggles charged shoppers without clear consent. Those are allegations, not rulings; see our lawsuits tracker for status.
- Say “shipping insurance.” Avoid vague names, and show the price before the shopper pays.
- Link the terms right next to the checkbox, and say who insures the shipment.
- Keep it on its own line in totals, confirmation emails and invoices. Do not fold it into shipping or handling.
- Name the item clearly. The item name prints on invoices. Use “Shipping insurance,” not an internal code.
Whether a product counts as insurance is decided by state law and regulators, based on what it does, not what it is called. Read the risks of fake shipping insurance and our shipping insurance scams resource center. This is general information, not legal advice.
