Salesforce Commerce Cloud Shipping Insurance
On an enterprise stack, the insurance option is a small feature with many owners. Settle the design before anyone writes code.

- InsureShip handles claims online, up to $5,000 per shipment.
Does Salesforce Commerce Cloud include shipping insurance?
No. Salesforce Commerce Cloud is Salesforce’s enterprise commerce suite. It includes B2C Commerce, B2B Commerce and a D2C “Starter Suite,” plus order management and point of sale. We found no native insurance option for shoppers in any of them.
This page focuses on B2C Commerce. Our public research on Salesforce extension points is thinner than for other platforms, so we frame the technical part as questions for your team rather than a recipe.
InsureShip connects to Salesforce Commerce Cloud through its API or a custom integration. Contact us to scope setup for your store. We do not offer a native Salesforce Commerce Cloud extension, module or plugin today.
How do you add shipping insurance to Salesforce Commerce Cloud?
- Scope with InsureShip. Tell us which Commerce Cloud product you run, your storefront architecture and your order management setup.
- Agree the data model. Ask your developer whether the insurance charge should be a product line item or a price adjustment, and how each shows on order exports.
-
Change basket calculation in a cartridge. The charge is added during basket calculation only when the shopper has opted in. On SFRA, ask your developer to confirm the calculation hook, for example
dw.order.calculate. - Add the opt-in box. Unchecked, near shipping or review, labeled “Shipping insurance,” with terms linked.
- Report insured orders. Send InsureShip each insured order through the API once it ships, from Commerce Cloud or from your order management system.
What should your Salesforce team decide before building?
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Line item or price adjustment? | Changes how the charge appears in exports, taxes and refunds |
| Which calculation hook? | The charge must be recalculated each time the basket changes, and removed when the box is cleared |
| Which sites and locales? | Each site may need its own label, price and terms link |
| Where does fulfillment live? | Shipment data for claims may come from order management, not the storefront |
| B2C, B2B or D2C? | Each product may extend checkout differently, so confirm the approach in Salesforce’s docs for the product you run |
Write these answers into the integration spec you share with InsureShip. They decide what data we receive and when.

What are the checkout best practices for Salesforce Commerce Cloud?
A few rules keep the checkout option clear and fair.
- Unchecked by default. InsureShip recommends, and configures by default, an opt-in (unchecked) offer. The shopper opts in. Several class-action complaints allege that pre-selected shipping protection toggles charged shoppers without clear consent. Those are allegations, not rulings; see our lawsuits tracker for status.
- Say “shipping insurance.” Avoid vague names, and show the price before the shopper pays.
- Link the terms right next to the checkbox, and say who insures the shipment.
- Keep it on its own line in totals, confirmation emails and invoices. Do not fold it into shipping or handling.
- Keep sites consistent. Use the same opt-in default and wording on every site, translated where needed.
Whether a product counts as insurance is decided by state law and regulators, based on what it does, not what it is called. Read the risks of fake shipping insurance and our shipping insurance scams resource center. This is general information, not legal advice.
