Coverage, Limits & Exclusions

These answers summarize what InsureShip shipping insurance covers and what it does not. They are drawn from the insurance certificate in Section 4 of the Terms and Conditions, which always controls.

Does shipping insurance cover packages stolen from my porch?

Yes. InsureShip coverage includes theft, including porch piracy (packages stolen after delivery), subject to the policy terms. For a package that never arrived, the certificate requires a 20-day wait for domestic shipments (30 days for international) before filing a non-delivery claim, and every claim must be filed within 90 days of shipment.

Is a package marked "delivered" but not received covered?

It can be. Theft after delivery is covered, subject to the policy terms, and claims are investigated: InsureShip and the insurer may review tracking and delivery records and contact the carrier, the merchant and the recipient.

First check with neighbors, building staff and the carrier. If the package still has not turned up, file a claim within the policy's time limits.

Is damage during shipping covered?

Yes. Damage in transit is covered, subject to the policy terms. If your shipment arrives damaged, file a notice of damage with InsureShip immediately, and keep all packaging and damaged items in their original condition until the claim is fully resolved.

Discarding the packaging or damaged goods, or releasing them to the carrier before the claim is complete, can lead to the claim being denied.

What if I find damage after I open the box days later?

The certificate covers concealed damage discovered up to 15 days after final delivery; that damage is treated as possibly having occurred in transit. Loss or damage discovered 16 or more days after final delivery is treated as not occurring in transit and is not covered.

Inspect your delivery promptly and report damage right away.

Does shipping insurance cover a late or delayed package?

No. Coverage does not include delay, so a late package is not, by itself, a covered loss. If a package never arrives, you can file a non-delivery claim after the waiting period: 20 days for domestic shipments or 30 days for international shipments.

For delivery-time questions, contact the store or the carrier.

Related questions: Does insurance cover spoiled, melted or temperature-damaged items? · Do packaging and labeling affect coverage?

Do packaging and labeling affect coverage?

Yes. The certificate excludes loss, damage or non-arrival of a parcel that was addressed, wrapped or packed insufficiently or incorrectly, or contrary to the carrier's packaging requirements. It also excludes parcels with a descriptive label or packaging that describes the contents.

The insured warrants that parcels are shipped in line with the carrier's regulations, so merchants should follow carrier packing rules and use plain outer packaging.
